The Golden Gate Bridge standing tall since its construction started in 1933.  During the Great Depression workers were eager to sacrifice life challenging construction to make money to put food on the table for their families.  The nearly 2 mile long bridge opened to the public in 1937.  It was an engineering accomplishment from a drawbridge builder name Joseph Strauss out of Chicago.  once the design was completed in 1921 it took 11 years for funding and approvals to begin construction.  It was named one of the seven civil engineering wonders of the United States by the American Society of Civil Engineers in 1994.  It is likely to be the most photographed bridge in the world.
